Overheard in a private members club: "It's nice to be able to help people once in a while"...."Oh no it's not."

We've been in Germany this week. Christmas has started there. The Christmas markets are all open, the streets are packed with people drinking Gluvine and there is goodwill all around.

Not so in the upper echelons of London's agency world it would seem.

Straight from a flight from Dusseldorf we went to a members club in central London to get a document written without the distractions of the office.

There we found other distractions instead.

An agency chief was talking to an American colleague. He was saying he hates doing charity work "...but you have to do it, because you look like a bastard if you don't."

Or, to rephrase, "But you have to do it, to hide the truth"

One of the privileges of the way we work is that we can often work where we like.

As a result we sometimes find ourselves in the proximity of other Marketing people, in hotel lounges, restaurants and members clubs. We are careful what we say, and if we want to discuss anything confidential we do it somewhere private.

But not everyone in our world shares our view. We are amazed by the indiscretion people display and by how hilariously some people discuss their businesses.

So we decided to create this blog to celebrate some of the finer examples of the lighter side of the marketing world.

We don't mean any harm to anyone, so we've made sure the venue and the people are unrecognisable, and we've posted things out of sequence, but we haven't made anything up: it's all true. Even if sometimes that doesn't seem possible.

And we're not immune to saying silly things ourselves occasionally, so we'll own up to some of our own.
